Sega's latest arcade conversion, less the killer steering wheel, is a raucous take on truck driving (a la "Crazy Taxi"). The player chooses one of four truckers and sets off on a four-leg trip across American from New York to San Francisco.

GameShark
An all too familiar Sega story: a refreshing new take on an old genre, featuring great control, sharp graphics, but crippled by lack of depth.

No real levels have been added to the original arcade version, so the game ends just when you’re revving up.

A blast while it lasts, but when you're done, you won't find much more fun. 10-4 that, good buddy.

Great graphics, excellent sound, and solid controls are all offset by a game that’s over before it started. This one is way too short.

The graphics are everything we've come to expect from Sega's Naomi-based arcade games, and the ultra-fluid frame rate makes up for any realism the graphics may be lacking. But unless the arcade experience at home is enough for you, 18 Wheeler will ultimately leave you disappointed.

Sega’s latest arcade conversion looks good and plays even better, just don’t expect to be playing this one for longer than a weekend. Only hardcore arcade fans need apply.

For what it sets out to do, that is to be a home version of the arcade game, 18 Wheeler gets a 99% perfect score, since the only thing missing is that extra driver. But as a game you play at home, it's just way too short.

The game is fun when you sit down with it, but two hours later you'll have seen everything there is to see.

It isn't that the game isn't solid and fun. It's just that most players will wonder why they didn't just stick a couple of bucks in the arcade machine instead.

Sharp graphics, explosive action, and an Internet multiplayer mode earn a big ten four.

Without the fromping huge arcade cabinet, the steering wheel as big as your head and a few friends fighting over who gets to play next, it just isn't the same.

A faithful conversion of the enjoyable arcade original, but a game with no longevity whatsoever.

Not recommended for those who crave speed. Remember folks, you won't be driving a Skyline, NSX, or even a Gremlin. You will be at the helm of a big diesel monstrosity. Head down a straightaway, give your 500hp vehicle some juice and your will notice an 80 mph top speed.

I suggest gamers shortchange Sega by spending only $3.99 to rent this miniscule title that will only be enjoyable truly for a weekend or so of fun.

XISMZERO gave it a 6:
Anyone who gave this game a 10 has probably not played it for longer than five minutes

Adam gave it a 9:
A wholly underrated and misunderstood game. Short levels aside, this is one seriously fun game; especially when you play against a friend in two player mode. The graphics are beautiful, and rival the PS2's ability at making polygons look pretty. The controls are solid and the physics, while on the arcade side of the spectrum, definitely give you the impression that you are in fact driving a rig, and not just a car from some run of the mill arcade racer. This game has alot of character and ambiance; borrowing elements from such cliches as Smokey and the Bandit and the stereotypical trucker way of life. All in all, I highly reccomend this game to anyone who wishes to escape for a weekend and enjoy the sights, sounds, and ambiance of a very well pieced together game that embodies the cliches of what being a trucker is all about.

Lizard Tail gave it an 8:
A very enjoyable, albeit short lived game. The graphics are top notch and the cockpit view of the road gives a excellent impression of actually commanding the rig yourself. This is very much an arcade style racer, so don't expect the most accurate of physics. Still, it is never short on fun and the AI is fairly challenging.

X gave it a 10:
Excellent Game!

Keith gave it a 10:
Excellent game! Far too short, but LOTS of fun. If you enjoyed Crazy Taxi or even Sega Rally, you will love 18 Wheeler. It has superb graphics and catches the ambiance of what trucking is all about.

This game was a rip off! It's not even fun with the hard AI that u have 2 race.

Marlin G. gave it a 5:
I wish I would have read your board ahead of time. Beat the game in just 3 hrs of game play and was disapointed badly with the ease. Had more fun in the arcades with it when I thought it was tough.
