(Also known as "Worldwide Soccer Manager 2006") One of the many fan-inspired features to make it into FM 2006 will be that, for the first time, managers will be able to negotiate with their board of directors - not only for a better contract for themselves, but also for improved player wage budgets and increased transfer budgets or even stadium expansion. Be aware though, if you push too hard and don't reach the heights that the board specify, you'll soon be looking for a new job. Half-time team talks add the ability to tell your players individually or collectively exactly what you thought of their first half performance, via the tactics screen. Will you be able to keep your players motivated, or will you cause a collapse in the second half? Another welcome feature is the ability to manage players on a personal level. Unhappy players can cause huge morale problems for the whole squad and result in bad performances, so the new Player Interaction feature will help you to manage your team more closely. [Sega Europe]

RewiredMind
A game that needs lots of processing power, and a good amount of RAM for the best experience. The fact that many gamers will have already upgraded their PC to account for this is testament to the game itself.

Perhaps my favourite part of Football Manager 2006 is the adaptation of the match engine into today’s defence-minded tactics. Teams are now more likely to play 4-5-1 and will often change tactics throughout the game, keeping you on your toes. It’s amazing once again at how you can swing a game with some simple changes, like setting a forward to run on the ball more in an attempt to coax a defender on a booking to challenge him and get sent off.

The second edition in the legendary sports-sim developer’s new soccer management series is every bit as addictive as it predecessor, which is to say that the damn thing should be investigated by the FDA. [Mar 2006, p.52]

Despite the fact that people may find a level of fun has been lost under the layers of improvements and options, the majority will still find that nothing comes close to quenching that thirst for power that Football Manager so eloquently provides.

Even if I'd never played the game before and found the prospect bewildering, I could have used the extensive in-game tutorial to get to grips with it. Or, as an experienced player, I could have noticed how the new features subtly present themselves over the course of several weeks, inexorably sucking you in to a parallel universe. [PC Zone]

This game is just as addictive as it ever was, it’s deeper than it ever was, and you can fiddle away with more stats, tactics and other various twiddly things than you ever could. We can’t find anything major to complain about.

Simply the best. Easy to play, hard to quit. Still too clinical. Where are the Gazza's of the simulated football world? [Nov 2005]

For a mere 30 quid, I have hundreds of hours of fun lying ahead and I can honestly say that having played computer games for nigh on 16 years, Football Manager 2006 is quite honestly the best I've ever played.

It can run a little slow and it's not without its niggles, but Football Manager 2006 is still the best for football and definitely this season's best footie sim. [PC Gamer UK]

Worth Playing
Quite solid, and if there is one problem, it is the steep learning curve. If you are new to manager-type games, then the huge amount of options can lead to quick frustration, but the tutorial and succinct manual alleviate this, if only a bit.

Total Video Games
It’s far closer to the seasonal updates that interspersed the "Championship Manager" series. That said the list of enhancements do make a great game even better and will be fully appreciated by the fanatics.

WSM has its hooks set deeply enough in me that even the frustration isn't enough to tear me completely away. I may put the game down for a few days, a few weeks, or even a few months. But like an alcoholic who's been clean for an extended period of time, all it takes is one drink - or two clicks on the World Soccer Manager icon - to fall right back off the wagon again. In this case, I find that I don't mind that so much.

The atmosphere, the realism, the tactical choices, the beautiful goals your players scores, etc. All this aids in making the game as good as it can be.

Tom W. gave it a10:
I think it's very good because you get the experience and pressure of a manager and it shows you how difficult can be plus you get to make the best team in the world through transfer.

Sander V. gave it a6:
Is it just me or am I just a great manager? Within 5 seasons I can get the worst second division team into Europe. Although I love it to try it over and over again with each new version, it irritates I seem to succeed again in 2006. (2nd season now, ready to promote).

Johan L. gave it a10:
This game is really interesting for football mania.

Matt DC gave it a9:
A 43-year-old father of two with better things to do with his time yelling at a numbered dot on a computer screen. Sadly, that's what this game has reduced me to. Possibly the world's most addictive spreadsheet. Giant, compelling and a fascinating insight into sports management.

Henning gave it a6:
I can't believe all this people are giving it a perfect ten! The best game of this series was cm 03-04, and it still is. Those menu changes that came in the 05-version were no good for the game. It seems like SI made those changes only to make any changes. Besides, it runs slow, and all the waiting kills much of the joy playing this game. Still, it's a decent game, it's probably as addictive as earlier cm version (the SI ones) - if you have A LOT of ram and processor speed that is.

Kujawa A. gave it a10:
Only 1 Cd, and so many ideas. Although it seem quite simple when you look at it first, but after first few hours of playing you realize how HUGE this game realy is

Stanley gave it a10:
An addictive football management game,,got a huge number of info, stat, players, and everything..This is the best game i've ever play...Anyone should try it.
