Less classic Mel Brooks than middling "Best Week Ever."

Boston Globe Mark Feeney
The best thing in Meet the Spartans is the swift kick in the bombast it delivers to the oh-no-not-us homoeroticism of "300."

TV Guide Maitland McDonagh
The musical number that runs during the closing credits funnier than anything that precedes it, which isn't saying much.

The Hollywood Reporter Frank Scheck
Writer-directors Jason Friedberg and Aaron Seltzer basically reprise the tired formula from their earlier efforts, which is to throw in as many pop culture references as possible to cover up the lack of any real wit.

The New York Times Jeannette Catsoulis
Overkill is what Jason Friedberg and Aaron Seltzer do best: as the uncontested titans of the parody genre (with fingers in everything from the “Scary Movie” franchise to the more recent “Epic Movie”) they continue to prove that ridiculing other movies is much easier than making your own.

LA Weekly Luke Y. Thompson
Meet the Spartans is a mild improvement over their "Epic Movie," which is like saying that a debilitating fever is more fun than appendicitis, but what’s shocking is how lazy it is, which is a shame for former UK child star/pop singer Sean Maguire, whose Gerard Butler impersonation is spot-on.

Lazy, lame and painfully unfunny, Meet the Spartans is yet another scrambled-genre parody.

Meet The Spartans gamely alternates between unfunny gay jokes and violent pratfalls for a good 80 minutes, finding time for not one, but two musical dance numbers set to "I Will Survive."

Hey, guys, when you repurpose a disco hit to poke fun at gay men, not only do you look like assholes, you look like assholes who rip their jokes off of YouTube.

It’s rare that a movie makes me ill these days, and it’s rare that I can see a movie and hate the people behind it with such abhorrence, but Meet the Spartans rises to the challenge.

Mike A gave it a0:
I went to see this after being told it was meant to be pretty funny, knowing absolutely nothing about the film except it was a parody of The 300. Which sounded like it could be a pretty good idea! GOD that was a mistake. Never AGAIN. It clunked along from unfunny joke to obvious pop culture reference, never once approaching anything remotely resembling humour. Which wouldn't be so bad if the jokes weren't so obviously stitched in! The entire film read like a sketch show gone wrong, like not a moment could go by without some "wacky" reference being ploughed into our faces. Humour works best when it's integrated into the film but, amazingly, here it serves to make it even MORE unfunny and distracting. Meet The Spartans is, easily, the worst film I have ever seen and probably ever will see, and there's no reason for anyone to want to watch it again. Come on. Let's forget this film ever existed. We can do it, guys.

Iron Crue gave it a0:
This movie was not at all clever, or funny. HAHAHA, they danced instead of fought!! AHAHA, who didnt see that coming? That movie was worse than date movie, and epic movie, both which i hated. They are coming out with an even worse movie.... These people are stupid as hell.

Kevin T. gave it a0:
Jason Friedberg and Aaron Seltzer have successfully destroyed what the Wayans Brothers started, with the help of Carmen Electra, Craig Mazin and Ken Davitian. Witless, terrible.

Anonymous gave it a0:
Wilhelm B. is either a troll or a complete moron.

Giren I. gave it a0:
Just write this review makes me wanna puke. I'll give this movie minus 10 if could.

Paul L. gave it a0:
This is an insult to most Hollywood legends. Even very unfunny of the parody genre. Dear Jason and Aaron, please stop making those movies please. It ruined your career and think about your Language arts well. Every movie you make is bad plot and uninspiring characters.

Rudy S. gave it a0:
Bad. Just unfunny and bad.
